Make AI Finish the Job With Controls

This week: business workflows enter AI assistants, oversight moves closer to the work, and leaders face a practical test of useful autonomy.

The AI Revolution:Business Brief

The One Thing

The one thing I’d like to challenge this week is the habit of calling a task automated while a person still carries the work between tools. My test is simple: give the system a complete job, then count every interruption, correction, and handoff it sends back to the person who asked for it. I would rather approve one clear result with its supporting evidence than supervise a string of clever steps, because saved human time is the business outcome that matters.

This week’s developments put that test in reach, and make the control questions harder to ignore.

The Debrief: On September 16, 2026, Salesforce detailed AIforce, an approach that brings its business data, workflows, and permissions into interfaces including Claude, Slack, and its own workplace tools.
  • Salesforce describes AIforce as a way to expose its platform through several working surfaces while preserving the underlying business context and controls.
  • The company says Salesforce in Claude is available in beta, allowing users to work with business records through a conversational interface.
  • The release positions existing platform data and workflows as reusable assets across interfaces; it does not establish independently measured customer savings.
  • ITPro reports that the initiative gives employees more interface choice, with Salesforce executives presenting it as a departure from shared application screens.
The Takeaway: As business work moves into conversational interfaces, the useful question is whether the original rules travel with it. A more convenient front door can save effort, but it can also hide who is allowed to change the underlying record. Test one complete job and inspect its permissions before expanding access.

Cisco expands Splunk AI control options

Local deployment choices, clearer spending signals, staged agent availability.

The Debrief: On September 15, 2026, Cisco announced Splunk advances that bring AI capabilities to customer-controlled infrastructure and extend agent observability with tools for tracking AI token spending.
  • Cisco says its AI POD for Splunk is available for customers running sensitive workloads in their own data centers and private environments.
  • Splunk AI Assistant is available on this infrastructure, while Agent Launchpad is planned for later release; the announcement separates those availability states.
  • Tokenomics tracks and attributes token expenditure, with consumption forecasting described as forthcoming; visibility into spending does not itself establish an enforced budget limit.
  • Techzine frames the announcements around customer control and observability, while examining how Splunk capabilities are increasingly being integrated into Cisco Cloud Control.
The Takeaway: With agents doing more work between human checkpoints, cost and access need to be visible where the work happens. A dashboard can make activity easier to understand, yet understanding a bill does not stop an unwanted action. Ask vendors to demonstrate the stop, approval, and recovery controls alongside the spending charts.

Anthropic brings Accenture inside model evaluation

Closer evaluator access, direct commercial funding, unsettled reporting standards.

An anonymous outside reviewer observes an evaluation workspace through a clear window with visible records.

The Debrief: On September 18, 2026, Anthropic announced that Accenture, led by its Faculty business, will conduct embedded model evaluation, including red-teaming, alignment assessments, and testing of model safeguards.
  • Anthropic says evaluators will work inside the company with access comparable to employees, gaining visibility into model development and related operating decisions.
  • Faculty will lead the evaluation work, including tests of model safeguards; Anthropic says the arrangement leaves responsibility for model safety with the lab.
  • Anthropic will fund the work directly while broader funding arrangements and standards for evaluator access and public reporting remain unsettled across the field.
  • TechCrunch reports criticism that industry self-policing could weaken accountability, highlighting the importance of how embedded evaluation is governed and disclosed.
The Takeaway: While embedded evaluators may gain useful access, buyers still need to know what findings will reach them. Proximity can help reviewers understand a system, but commercial funding creates questions that an independence label alone cannot settle. Ask for the reporting rules, unresolved findings, and limits of the evaluation before relying on its reassurance.

Test One Complete Job Before Expanding

Find out whether AI removes work or merely moves it. Use one recurring job and a clear finish line.

Checklist

  1. Choose one recurring job. Done when you can name its starting request and the finished result in one sentence.
  2. Record the current human effort. Done when you have timed a normal run, including copying, checking, and follow-up work.
  3. Name the person who owns the result. Done when that owner agrees what a usable result must contain.
  4. List the inputs the job needs. Done when every required input has a known location and an access decision.
  5. Write the allowed actions. Done when the system can distinguish preparing a change from putting it into effect.
  6. Set the approval points. Done when money, external messages, and irreversible changes have a named human decision.
  7. Define the evidence to keep. Done when a reviewer can trace each important claim or change to its source.
  8. Run the whole job once. Done when the system returns one complete package without asking you to carry intermediate work.
  9. Count every human interruption. Done when questions, repairs, and handoffs appear beside the final review time.
  10. Compare the total effort. Done when you can show whether the new approach saved human time at acceptable quality.
  11. Choose the next action. Done when the owner has approved continued use, requested one clear correction, or stopped the trial.

What We're Watching

Will AI interfaces preserve the approval and access rules of the systems they connect?

Will token dashboards lead to enforceable limits and useful stop controls?

Will embedded evaluators publish findings that enterprise buyers can actually use?

Stay Sharp. Stay Ahead. Stay in the AI Revolution.

Keep pushing forward. The AI revolution doesn't wait.
